Food as Medicine 2026 Update - 10 Years of Food as Medicine: Turning Knowledge into Practice
This year's Food as Medicine Update marks 10 years of translating nutritional knowledge into practice to improve health outcomes for patients. Discover the latest evidence supporting healthy aging, managing chronic conditions, boosting brain health and more with the power of food and lifestyle medicine.
The annual Food as Medicine Update addresses the knowledge-gap in nutrition in patient care. In this full day symposium, healthcare professionals learn about the most recent clinical research on nutrition for chronic disease management and prevention throughout the lifespan. This group learning continuing medical education (CME) activity is accredited by the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) office at the University of Toronto.
After active engagement in this symposium, participants will be better able to:
- Evaluate the efficacy, safety and clinical relevance of emerging therapies and interventions, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, creatine supplementation and micronutrients.
- Apply evidence-based nutrition including the microbiome, dietary patterns and supplementation into clinical practice.
- Communicate effectively with patients to address nutrition misinformation, support behavior change and promote health across the lifespan.
- Integrate individualized nutrition strategies into patient-centered care plans.
A special feature of the Food as Medicine Update is the Rundle-Lister Lectureship in Transformative Nutritional Medical Education. The 2026 lectureship is awarded to Dr. Sonia Anand, MD, PhD, FRCP (C), FCAHS FRSC in recognition of her outstanding contributions to translational research in the field of therapeutic diets and chronic disease prevention.
