School-Based Nutrition Graduate Awards,  Fellowships and Catalyst Funds

The Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds (FKNM) School-based Nutrition Research Initiative is a four-year research project that aims to provide a comprehensive overview of school food programs in Canada and identify best practices in relation to the design, delivery and measurement of school food programs.

The Joannah & Brian Lawson Centre for Child Nutrition is pleased to announce the third round of call for proposals for School-based Nutrition Graduate Awards, Fellowships and Catalyst Funds. Funding is available to support graduate students (MSc, MPH, PhD), postdoctoral fellows and other research expenses.

Application Deadline: Friday September 30, 2022.

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must be a University of Toronto faculty and the project must align with either or both of tracks 3 and 4 research objectives identified on the application form. Researchers may apply for more than one grant at a time and applications can be combined.

Evaluation Criteria: 
Proposals will be evaluated on the following criteria: 

  • Alignment to one or more specific research tracks (10%)
  • Rigor and feasibility of proposed methods (50%)
  • Appropriate mix of relevant expertise on proposed research team (25%)
  • Well-justified, eligible research budget (15%)
  • Attention to knowledge translation, where appropriate

Application Review Process:

  • Application will be reviewed by a small committee consisting of members of the Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds steering committee.

School-Based Nutrition Graduate Award

The School-Based Nutrition Graduate Awards are available to support Masters-level and PhD student stipends.

Graduate students can come from any University of Toronto department, including UTSC and UTM and the primary supervisor does not need to be a member of the Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds steering committee. However, a recommendation from a steering committee member is required.

School-Based Nutrition Fellowship

The School-Based Nutrition Fellowship is available to support Postdoctoral Fellow stipends.

Postdoctoral fellows can come from any University of Toronto department, including UTSC and UTM. The primary supervisor does not need to be a member of the Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds steering committee. However, a recommendation from a steering committee member is required.

Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds Catalyst Fund

The Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds Catalyst Funds are available to support FKNM projects that align with tracks 3 and 4 of the project. Examples of eligible expenses include research personnel salaries, materials, research supplies and publication fees. 

Applicants can come from any University of Toronto department, including UTSC and UTM and and do not need to be a member of the Feeding Kids, Nourishing Minds steering committee. However, a recommendation from a steering committee member is required.
