Research Interests
Diabetes, Metabolic syndrome, Insulin resistance, Aboriginal health
Professor Hanley seeks to identify the nutritional and lifestyle factors that promote the onset of diabetes, especially in high-risk populations such as Aboriginal Canadians. He is also investigating metabolic syndrome — a clustering of risk factors for diabetes and heart disease — and gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy but usually resolves after birth.
